Hands-on experience

ITEM offers the opportunity to have experience of working with and learning about analog, digital, hardware and software instruments ranging from the 1970s to modern day

We employ this hybrid approach to learning and creation to encourage getting 'out-of-the-box'  and being curious about the ways we can engage with these instruments rather than sticking to formulas.

Collaborate

Classes will take the form of group workshops, learning and developing skills together. This project will be supplemented with a Discord server where materials, ideas and resources can be shared between the groups.

We believe that community and collaboration is an important part of creativity - sharing ideas, resources and imagination - breaking down boundaries of exclusion and exploring the learning and creative process as a holistic practice

Throughout its history, electronic music has been the sound of progression, disruption of normality and transcendent unity.

We encourage active participation in this lineage and seek to create space for this.

CREATE

Classes will be supplemented with a weekly assignment relating to that weeks learning subject.

Assignments will contribute towards the creation of a final piece of work at the end of the course.

ITEM is led by Lewis Cook of Free Love

Lewis is a musician from Glasgow and has been creating electronic music for half of his life as a musician, producer, engineer and DJ. In that time he's hauled synthesizers and drum machines across the US, India, Russia and almost every country in Europe to perform live. His work as part of Free Love has been released on Night School Records, Optimo Music, Lost Map Records, Believe Music and Domino, and has been nominated for the Scottish Album of the Year award four times and he has produced and remixed music for many other artists - most recently remixes for Charlotte Gainsbourg and Django Django. Previously, Cook has helped lead the Electronic Music workshops and continues to contribute to the Sonic Youths project at the Green Door Studio in Glasgow. He is a qualified vinyasa yoga teacher and likes to grow mushrooms in his spare time.

Classes will be assisted by Moema Meade aka Lady Neptune.

Moema Meade has worked extensively as a session Bassist, Producer, DJ, vocalist, and solo artist. Having first embraced the London DIY Punk scene, she picked up work as a session musician which led to her creating an expansive network within the industry be it DIY artists or more commercially established acts. This eventually brought her to Glasgow where she established herself as a solo electronic act and performance artist releasing music under her alter ego Lady Neptune on indie label Nightschool Records and continues to work, produce and perform as a solo artist, in collaborative projects and as a live and recording session musician.
