WHAT IS ACID?

Acid is a classification of electronic music deriving from Acid House - a movement and genre developed in Chicago in the 1980s and exported around the world. The sound is sometimes defined by the sound of the Roland TB-303 synthesizer. It's simple but iconic squelch has been integral in many kinds of electronic music including techno, electro, synthpop, coldwave, IDM, gabba, hardcore, trance etc. etc.
Beyond the fetishisation of the sound of the 303 and its many clones, we will consider Acid as a philosophy that embraces crudity, minimalism, humour, togetherness and movement.

MAKE YOUR OWN ACID is a specialised workshop sharing the skills and understanding to produce electronic music using the tools and vocabulary of Acid. As well as introducing the fundamentals and providing an overview of context - MYOA exists as a unique incubator for the exploration of new group experiments in Acid.

LEARN

Explore the social context, history and contemporary lineage of acid and consider how we might interpret its development and innovation.

PLAY

Through hands-on experience with a mixture of analog and digital instruments, attendees will be guided through the process of creating electronic music with a focus on the tools and methods of acid.

MAKE YOUR OWN ACID will be supplemented with a Discord page on the ITEM server for attendees to continue collaboration, sharing ideas, inspiration, files etc.

MAKE YOUR OWN ACID will provide context, space and means for creation of new work through guided group experimentation. All work created by the attendees will be owned by the attendees with files shared on request for post-incubator continued work or release.

Make Your Own Acid is suitable for all levels of experience. The workshop will not assume any prior knowledge (and is therefore suitable for complete beginners) but will also provide a unique situation for creative collaboration, exploration and cross-pollination for artists who have some experience in electronic music production already.

MYOA is led by Lewis Cook and will take place at La Chunky Studios in the West End of Glasgow on
Monday 3rd October  &
Monday 10th October
Sessions run from 5pm - 10pm

This is a self-funded workshop priced to make it as accessible as possible to attendees.

The Workshop standard price is £60
We have made a self-assessed concession price of £50 for those that require it, and the option to contribute a little bit extra as a
Pillar of Acid  - which goes a long way to supporting ITEM in our development and also helps offset the subsidisation of offering concession prices.
